Ill Manors: Broadcast platform concluded

DVD extras
Watch the Making Of Ill Manors from the DVD extras.

1) What does this tell us about Plan B's intentions in making the film?

- This tells us that his intentions were to make the audience understand the life of youth and people who live in a council estate. He wanted to bring light to the fact that people who live in this area do not get the attention they need and the help they need. There are many negative stereotypes that are linked to living in a council estate.

2) What do we learn about the production process for Ill Manors?

- I learnt that he didn't have a lot of money and had to make compromises that best suited what he was doing. He also wanted actors that had experience with the situation he was getting them to play to make sure the realism that is being portrayed is as accurate as it can be. The reason why he wrote ill manors is because of short films he made in the past where he had to shorten a script into five pages because of low budget and he thought to narrate it through rapping. Which is why he narrates parts of the film Ill Manors by rapping. There was another short film he enjoyed where he really wanted to know each character and what their story was and where they were from which lead to how Ill manors was written to go into the lives of different characters in the film.

3) What can you tell about the possible target audience from this short documentary?

- If you looked at the posters of the film without watching the film then you would assume the target audience is for teenagers but when you actually watch the entire film you begin to realise that it is more aimed to the older generation of the audience demographic, people who are usually in their 20-30's. As it is bringing light to the life of others and what they have to go through living in a council estate.

4) Does the film successfully do what director Ben Drew (Plan B) set out to achieve? Explain your answer with reference to both the film and the 'making of' documentary.

This company likes to focus on small Artists that are growing in the music industry and are building their way to the top. The target audience for SBTV would be predominantly males rather females that are around the ages 15 to about 29. As it mainly targets the younger generation.

2) What is the audience appeal for an interview like this? How does the opening of the clip emphasise this appeal?
- there is a high comedic value to this interview as it is shown as a mini skit where the interviewer is acting like he isn't supposed to be there but later the audience realise that it was planned as they show takes of them laughing when they mess up.

- It stands for School of Hard Knocks. They use sport to tackle the issues surrounding unemployment, crime and health. They work with individuals to help them move foreward with their lives in a positive direction.

2) Why is Ill Manors a good fit to promote on SOHK.TV?
- Ill Manors is a good fit to promote on SOHK.TV because in the film it focuses on things like Criminal activity in council estate areas and therefore the target audience would be very similar as they are both trying to make awareness to similar ideas.

3) What kind of audience would subscribe to SOHK.TV? Is it a different audience to the main target audience for Ill Manors? Why might this benefit Ben Drew and the institutions behind Ill Manors?
- I think that the target audience for SOHK.TV is similar to the target audience in ill Manors because they focus on similar aspects of society. Hence the audience are more likely to identify with what they talk about. This would benefit Ben Drew in the sense that people that enjoy watching SOHK.TV will enjoy watching what Ill Manors have to offer.

3) What is the audience appeal for a programme like the Jonathan Ross show?

- In this text Plan B is represented as uneducated but well informed about life. At times in the clip it almost seems like he is being ridiculed. However, he responds to the comments in a respectful manner.
